Nick on demand

Nick works through this element as in an FNDRS workshop: what a buyer is really asking, how the score moves, and the first thing to fix.

§1 Definition

What demand is

Evidence that the market wants what the company sells.

Demand is proof that the market wants what you sell, in the form of inquiries, quotes, orders, and repeat purchases. It is the raw material for revenue growth. Without it, every other improvement in the table is optimizing a business that is standing still.

A regional HVAC company with a six-week install backlog has Demand; a consulting firm whose pipeline is whatever the founder’s network sends this month does not have proof of it.

Use cases

Tracking inbound leads and quote volume monthly, knowing your win rate, and being able to show a buyer that demand exists independent of your personal relationships.

The inputs family

What every owner starts with. Inputs are recorded as conditions of the engagement rather than scored against a target; they set the clock and the budget for everything else.

What you start with. Time, talent, capital, and demand. Every other element is built against these four.

§2 Measurement

What the assay measures

Pipeline volume, inbound rate, and win rate over the trailing twelve months.

Figure 1. Sample assay for Acme Industrial: demand scores 70 today (developing) against a target of 70 (developing). Sample scores, not a client. Your own assay comes from the exit score and the valuation.

How the scale reads

  1. Every element is scored from 0 to 100 against what a sophisticated buyer expects at close.
  2. Risk elements are scored as control: higher is safer.
  3. Inputs are recorded, not targeted.Applies here
  4. Outcomes are derived from their feeding families.

§3 Matrix

Where the inputs family stands

Every element of the family plotted by its sample score today against its target. The dashed line is the target itself: the farther a point sits above it, the more lift the assay asks for. Below 50 on either axis is the gap a buyer will price.

  • Hover a quadrant to read what it means for the elements inside it.
  • Points above the dashed line still need lift; a point on the line is at target.

§4 Position

The inputs series

4 elements share the family. Read them together: a buyer prices them as a group.

§5 Compounds

Demand stands alone

This element is not part of a named compound. It is priced on its own, through the family it belongs to.

§6 In the FNDRS journey

Where demand gets worked

The assay scores it. The process, the pillars, and the platform move it. Table 2 lists every place this element is on the agenda.

§7 In the valuation

How FNDRS tracks demand

Tracked Low leverage

FNDRS tracks the signals behind this element and reports on them. The element itself does not move the FNDRS number; where it is report-only it never touches the price.

What FNDRS reads

Lead channels and evidence that customer demand can scale, in the growth report card, with lead-volume and acquisition-cost diagnostics.

Tracked as evidence of growth; the element itself does not move the number.
