The FNDRS Elements®Element 09Earnings
Revenue that repeats under contract or habit without being re-sold each period.
Founder to founder
Troy works through recurring revenue: what a buyer is really asking about next year, why one business is valued above another, and the first thing to fix.

§1 Definition
Revenue that repeats under contract or habit without being re-sold each period.
Recurring Revenue is income that repeats without being re-sold each period: contracts, subscriptions, maintenance agreements, retainers, or purchasing habits so reliable they behave like contracts. It is the single largest driver of a higher multiple in most industries because it makes next year’s revenue visible today.
A commercial cleaning company with 80% of revenue on annual contracts is valued very differently from a general contractor that rebuilds its revenue from zero every January.
Use cases
Converting one-time service into maintenance or service agreements, offering annual plans in place of per-job pricing, and reporting recurring and non-recurring revenue as separate lines so the recurring share is visible and can be grown.
The earnings family
The economic engine. Earnings elements determine the size of the number a multiple is applied to.
Earnings. The engine. Pricing, margin, growth, overhead, recurring revenue, and retention set the number a buyer multiplies.

§2 Measurement
Share of revenue under contract, subscription, or documented repeat purchase.
How the scale reads
§3 Matrix
Every element of the family plotted by its sample score today against its target. The dashed line is the target itself: the farther a point sits above it, the more lift the assay asks for. Below 50 on either axis is the gap a buyer will price.
§4 Position
6 elements share the family. Read them together: a buyer prices them as a group.
§5 Compounds
Compounds are the properties buyers actually price: several elements bonded into one. Each is scored from its parts.
The compound buyers underwrite first. Recurring Revenue proves income repeats; Retention proves it stays.

§6 In the FNDRS journey
The assay scores it. The process, the pillars, and the platform move it. Table 2 lists every place this element is on the agenda.

§7 In the valuation
Measured Medium leverage
The FNDRS valuation reads this element directly. Its assay score derives from the same answers the engine scores, so the assay and the valuation can never disagree.
What FNDRS reads
Share of revenue under contract, typical agreement length, and how repeatable sales are.
The exit score is the first assay: fifteen minutes, six pillars, and a first read on the elements that matter most.
