§1 Definition
Demand produced by a repeatable system rather than the founder’s relationships.
Sales Engine is whether new business arrives through a system or through you. A system has a defined buyer, named sources of leads, people other than the owner carrying a number, and a conversion rate you can quote from memory. Buyers pay a premium for it because it is the part of growth that survives the handoff. Without it they are buying your address book, and they know it.
Most businesses in the $3M to $30M range still run sales through the founder, and the ones that do not are usually one hire deep. A contractor whose work arrives entirely by word of mouth has demand without an engine: the demand is real, and it stops the day the owner stops answering the phone.
Use cases
Tracking the share of new revenue that came from a repeatable source rather than a relationship, putting a second person on a number well before the exit conversation starts, and being able to show a buyer the conversion rate from lead to close over the last eight quarters.
The multiple family
Qualities that raise the price a buyer will pay for each dollar of earnings. Multiple elements are where most of the value gap closes.
The multiple. What raises the multiple: clean books, predictability, management depth, a sales engine, proprietary IP, brand, and strategic fit.
Meet the family§2 Measurement
Share of new revenue from repeatable sources rather than owner relationships, the number of people other than the owner carrying a quota, documented conversion rates by pipeline stage, and whether the customer record is current.
How the scale reads
§3 Profile
Today's score for every element in the family, drawn as one shape against the dashed outline of the targets. The shape shows where the family is thin: sales engine is the marked axis.
§4 Position
8 elements share the family. Read them together: a buyer prices them as a group.
§5 Compounds
This element is not part of a named compound. It is priced on its own, through the family it belongs to.
§6 In the FNDRS journey
The assay scores it. The process, the pillars, and the platform move it. Table 2 lists every place this element is on the agenda.

§7 In the valuation
Measured Medium leverage
The FNDRS valuation reads this element directly. Its assay score derives from the same answers the engine scores, so the assay and the valuation can never disagree.
What FNDRS reads
The channels new business arrives through, the sales analytics in use, the customer system of record, the share of revenue coming through digital channels, and referral potential.
Shares its signals with Demand, Tech/AI Automation, and Brand Equity, the way Key-Person Risk and Management Depth share theirs.
