§1 Definition
Accrual books, reconciled monthly, that survive a quality-of-earnings review.
Clean Financials means accrual-basis books, closed monthly, reconciled to the bank, and consistent enough that an outside accountant could review them without surprises. This is the first thing a buyer’s team examines, and problems here cast doubt on every other number you present.
Many profitable $3M to $30M businesses run on cash-basis books maintained for tax purposes, with personal expenses mixed in and inventory counted once a year. That is normal, and it costs owners real money at sale.
Use cases
Moving to accrual accounting, closing the books within 15 days of month end, getting reviewed statements two to three years before a sale, and keeping a running schedule of owner add-backs so the normalized earnings figure is defensible.
The multiple family
Qualities that raise the price a buyer will pay for each dollar of earnings. Multiple elements are where most of the value gap closes.
The multiple. What raises the multiple: clean books, predictability, management depth, a sales engine, proprietary IP, brand, and strategic fit.

§2 Measurement
Accrual basis, monthly close within 15 days, reconciled accounts, and reviewed or audited statements.
How the scale reads
§3 Profile
Today's score for every element in the family, drawn as one shape against the dashed outline of the targets. The shape shows where the family is thin: clean financials is the marked axis.
§4 Position
8 elements share the family. Read them together: a buyer prices them as a group.
§5 Compounds
Compounds are the properties buyers actually price: several elements bonded into one. Each is scored from its parts.
Nothing surfaces in diligence that was not already disclosed. Closes faster, at the agreed price.

§6 In the FNDRS journey
The assay scores it. The process, the pillars, and the platform move it. Table 2 lists every place this element is on the agenda.

§7 In the valuation
Measured Medium leverage, and the range
The FNDRS valuation reads this element directly. Its assay score derives from the same answers the engine scores, so the assay and the valuation can never disagree.
What FNDRS reads
Whether the tax returns support the earnings, whether the financials tie to the taxes, and the accounting systems in use. The verification score sets the width of the valuation range.
Clean financials work differently from the other Multiple elements. Their main effect is confidence: strong books tighten the valuation range and defend the number in diligence, while weak books widen the range around the same midpoint. They also help the multiple modestly. In the FNDRS engine, data quality sets the width of the range and never shifts the midpoint.
