§1 Definition

What estate architecture is

Trusts and ownership set up so wealth transfers as planned.

Estate Architecture is the trusts, ownership structures, and legal arrangements that determine how the wealth you have built transfers to your family and causes as you intend. Done before a sale, it can move future appreciation out of your taxable estate at today’s value. Done after, the opportunity has largely passed.

An owner whose shares are held personally with a basic will has left the largest decisions to default rules.

Use cases

Reviewing your estate plan alongside your exit timeline, considering whether some ownership should move into trusts before a liquidity event, aligning beneficiary designations and buy-sell agreements with the plan, and reviewing it every two years or after any major change.

The wealth family

What the owner and family keep. Wealth elements are set before the LOI, because after it they cannot be changed.

What you keep. Structure set before the letter of intent, so enterprise value becomes after-tax proceeds for the family.

Meet the family

§2 Measurement

What the assay measures

Trusts and ownership structures in place, reviewed within the last two years, and aligned to the owner’s stated wishes.

Figure 1. Sample assay for Acme Industrial: estate architecture scores 25 today (leaking value) against a target of 75 (strong). Sample scores, not a client. Your own assay comes from the exit score and the valuation.

How the scale reads

  1. Every element is scored from 0 to 100 against what a sophisticated buyer expects at close.
  2. Risk elements are scored as control: higher is safer.
  3. Inputs are recorded, not targeted.
  4. Outcomes are derived from their feeding families.

Figure 2. Protected Proceeds (PP) is the overlap of Estate Architecture, Tax Strategy, and Insurance Shield: each set is one element, drawn in its family color; the compound is what a buyer finds where they meet.

§3 Venn

How estate architecture bonds into protected proceeds

A compound is three elements a buyer reads as one property. Proceeds structured before the LOI, not after. The difference between enterprise value and what the family keeps. Each circle is one element, scored on its own; the overlap is protected proceeds, read from the parts together rather than from any one of them.

  • Estate Architecture is one of the circles. Its own score comes from the assay; the compound's comes from all 3.
  • Where one circle is weak the overlap shrinks, and with it the price a buyer puts on the whole. Strong tax strategy and insurance shield without estate architecture is still not protected proceeds.
  • Hover a circle to read what that element measures, or the centre for the compound itself.

§4 Position

The wealth series

4 elements share the family. Read them together: a buyer prices them as a group.

§5 Compounds

What estate architecture forms

Compounds are the properties buyers actually price: several elements bonded into one. Each is scored from its parts.

§6 In the FNDRS journey

Where estate architecture gets worked

The assay scores it. The process, the pillars, and the platform move it. Table 2 lists every place this element is on the agenda.

Figure 4. The route estate architecture takes: buyers, diligence, and the deal itself set its effect; the FNDRS valuation does not compute it.

§7 In the valuation

Where estate architecture is priced

Priced by buyers Not modeled

The FNDRS valuation does not compute this element, either by design or because it is not yet measured. Its effect shows up in what a buyer will pay, in diligence, or in the structure of the deal and the proceeds.

What FNDRS reads

Outside the valuation by design.

Set with your advisors before the LOI. It changes what the family keeps, not what a buyer pays.
